washing machine lint trap
As you can see from my picture the old and new lint trap. I had apparently forgotten about this one for a little too long but it made for a good photo. This is a VERY simple thing to do that could save you all kinds of time, money, and anguish. Washing clothes produces a whole bunch of lint. Without a trap to catch that lint it will just head on down the drain and clog it up. You won’t even know it until one day you do a load of laundry and come back to a wet floor.
A washing machine lint trap attaches to the discharge pipe of your washing machine. You can pick these up at any hardware store. A steel mesh cage that is held on with a small zip tie. Sometimes it’s the super simple things that make all the difference. If you are a fan of repurposing things, some old stockings work just the same.
Now if you don’t have a laundry tub this advice does not apply. Without a laundry tub you probably have a grey box, or a standpipe behind your machine. A grey box contains the shut off valves and the drain. There is a possibility that this lint trap can fly off the discharge pipe. Worst case scenario in a laundry tub you can just pick it back up. With a grey box, or standpipe, it would shoot down the drain and be a massive headache.
