IF IT ain't TOILET PAPER, don’t FLUSH IT

In my plumbing experience I have seen some things in my day. I have pulled things out of sewer lines that you wouldn’t believe, and some things you might. Toilet paper is great it breaks down to almost nothing. All it takes is a little bit of water and it dissolves away. Anything else does not. Short list, all of these things I have seen before. Hilarious, but also can cost you a LOT of money.

  • Bandaids

  • Tissue

  • Paper towels

  • Tennis balls

  • Dryer sheets

  • Golf balls

  • Rubber duckies

  • Flashlights

  • Toothbrushes

  • Toy boats

  • Toy soldiers (poor guys never had a chance)

Now for the more serious list. Also all things I have seen, and even sometimes multiple times in the same house, even though they were advised to not flush these things anymore.

  • Feminine care products

  • “Flushable” wipes (even thought the name implies they are not flushable)

  • Disinfecting wipes

  • Wipes of any kind really

  • condoms

  • dental floss

  • cotton swabs

  • cotton balls

  • socks

  • underwear

All of these thing can easily be avoided. Not flushing things that aren’t toilet paper will help keep your basement dry, and your wallet full. It is surprisingly easy to clog up your drain lines. All it takes is one thing to go stuck in there and more things will get stuck on the one thing. I have seen entire basements completely destroyed by items that were flushed that were not toilet paper. I am talking about two feet of sewage throughout a basement because the wipes said they were “FLUSHABLE”.

In conclusion. As the title of this blog states. Please do yourself a favor and don’t flush ANYTHING that ain’t toilet paper. Well you can flush poop and pee, but only that and toilet paper.
