Winterizing made as easy as possible
Winterizing hose bibs.
This one is overlooked all the time. Usually not a difficult thing to do, depending on the age of your system. If not done it could become a problem at the first frost. Speaking of which this should be done BEFORE the first frost. Or you could be getting that indoor swimming pool you've never wanted.
Step one. Locate the shutoff for the hose bib inside your house and turn it off.
Step two. Go outside, remove the hose from the hose bib, and open the hose bib all the way. If the water does not stop running the valve on the inside is not working and will require replacement.
Step three. And this one is important. Go back inside to the shutoff valve and open the bleeder cap, a small cap usually located on the side of the valve. This will break the airlock and allow water to drain out. You're going to want a cup handy just in case that water decides to flow out of the bleeder instead of the hose bib.
In the springtime, just reverse that process.
Now if you have an irrigation system this simple process becomes much more complicated and requires an air compressor and all sorts of stuff. There are companies that will do that.
